
Kenyans from different parts of the country have expressed mixed reactions following Raila Odinga’s loss in the race for the African Union Commission chairman.
While lamenting his loss, residents of Kondele, Kisumu asked him to come back home, peacefully and assume his role in the country’s leadership.
Addressing the media shortly after the election results, they however said the loss was a blessing in disguise for Kenyans.
“Kama Raila angechukua hio kiti sisi tungeteswa. Rudi Kenya Baba. Without you Kenya cannot be Kenya,” one of the residents said.
In Nyeri, women broke out in songs of praise to God, stating that Raila is needed in the Kenyan elections.
At Karatina market, a businesswoman said Kenya should have supported a younger candidate for the position.
Others said it is time for Raila to resume his opposition duties.
“Yeye atatoboa siri ya kule watoto wetu wanaenda kwa hivo tunamkaribisha sana. Karibu nyumbani baba,” a business owner said.
“Tumefurahia Kenya kupoteza juu Baba akiwa huko mbali, atasaidia watu wa mbali lakini tunamtaka hapa Kenya.”
In Mombasa, the residents lauded Raila for showcasing am attitude of diplomacy and panafricanism.
A resident said it is a sad day for Africans, who he said, is a symbol of unity for the continent.
“Ni siku ya huzuni sana. Tumepoteza nafasi ya kuchangua kiongozi mchapa kazi. Kiongozi mwenye anafahamu shida za Africa,” he said.
He went on to condemn those who are supporting Raila’s loss, adding that they are displaying a divided front.
In Kajiado, Kenyans said they are used to Raila’s loss, adding that he should come home and restrategise for the next move.
“Baba arudi Kenyan tuendelee na kujenga nchi,” a resident said.
"Raila come back home. You are our son and we will receive you."
