Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho on Tuesday held talks with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairperson Faisal Abdullah Al Rowas.

The talks were held on the sideline of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference.

Joho said the conversation focused on the need for private sector investment across various sectors of the economies of the two countries.

I highlighted the promising opportunities for investment in the blue economy, agriculture, mining, and the construction industry, particularly in the upcoming special economic zone in Mombasa County,” Joho said.

Joho said the two leaders also explored the potential for establishing direct shipping lines between Kenya and Oman.

They also discussed the importance of reviving and strengthening bilateral aviation agreements.

"The Sultanate of Oman has deep-rooted historical ties with the Kenya Coast and it is essential that we leverage these connections for our mutual benefit," Joho said.

According to Xinhua, the 8th Indian Ocean Conference commenced here on Sunday.

The agenda is to explore opportunities and challenges in maritime trade and security, renewable energy, and technological innovation, Oman's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The two-day event was held under the theme, "Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership," Xinhua said.

The Indian Ocean Conference was started by the India Foundation in 2016, in Singapore, with participation from 30 countries.

The conference has become a flagship consultative forum for countries around the world in the previous 8 years.

The Conference endeavours to bring critical states and principal maritime partners of the region together on a common platform to deliberate upon the prospects of regional cooperation for Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
