President William Ruto has revealed why the Kenya Kwanza government decided to work together with opposition leaders.
Speaking in Kwale, during the laying of the foundation stone for the X-ray Block and opening of the theater at Mkogani Sub-County Hospital on Tuesday, Ruto said elections are over and it is time for all leaders, regardless of political divide, to work for Kenyans.
He insisted that it is the reason he decided to form a government that unites all Kenyans.
The President said that there should be no discrimination on any basis or people left out of the development of the country.
“Mambo ya uchaguzi tulimaliza. Nimekubali tutengeneze serikali ya kuunganisha wakenya wote hata wale walikuwa upinzani tumekubaliana wakuje tuendeshe Kenya pamoja, kusiwe na ubaguzi, kusiwe na wale wamefungiwa nje, tuungane pamoja. Waswahili wanasema umoja ni nguvu,” Ruto said.
This loosely translates to, “We finished the election matters. I have agreed that we should form a government to unite all Kenyans, even those who were in the opposition, we have agreed that they should come and we lead Kenya together, there should be no discrimination, we should not have others locked out, let us unite. The Swahili say unity is strength.”
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who accompanied the President to Kwale, urged citizens to shun divisions of any nature.
According to the DP, Kenya’s development can only be realised if all Kenyans are united.
He added that this is the reason President William Ruto decided to work with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, despite being opponents in the 2022 presidential elections.
“For our country to develop, we must foster national unity, shun ethnic and religious divisions, and be one united people and nation. That way, God will bless our country. This is the reason the President is uniting the country, even his opponent in 2022; they are now working together. It is a broad-based government,” Kindiki said.
President Ruto and his deputy have been in the Coast, for a week-long development tour of the region.
