The Board of Directors of Absa Bank Kenya has appointed Anne Nyongesa as the new Company Secretary effective Friday, February 28.
According to Board, Nyongesa will be replacing Wilson Murage who has left the company to pursue other interests.
“The Board of Directors of Absa Bank Kenya PLC ("Absa Kenya") is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Anne Nyongesa as the Company Secretary of Absa Kenya with effect from 28 February 2025,” Board chairman Charles Muchene said.
“We take this opportunity to welcome Ms. Nyongesa to this role and service to the Board.”
Prior to joining Absa Kenya, Nyongesa held various legal, governance and company secretary positions in the financial services sector.
The Board said she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in governance and company secretarial matters to Absa Kenya.
Nyongesa is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 17 years of post-admission experience and is also a Certified Public Secretary (Kenya).
She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) Degree from the University of South Africa, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from the University of Nairobi and other qualifications.
She is also a member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) and a holder of a practising certificate as a company secretary issued under the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya Act (Chapter 534, Laws of Kenya).
Murage was appointed Interim Company Secretary in October 2023 and subsequently confirmed as the substantive Company Secretary, on May 28, 2024.
His entry into the role followed the resignation of Gakumo, who had served as Company Secretary for four and a half years, from April 2019.
The Board said it wishes Murage well as he moves on to the next chapter of his career.
“We take this opportunity to appreciate Mr. Murage for his dedicated service to the Board and wish him the very best as he pursues his next career opportunities.”
