On Friday President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a political pact that will see the two parties work together.
The Kenya Kwanza-ODM Framework Agreement was signed at KICC, Nairobi in an event attended by Members of Parliament allied to the two leaders.
In a statement on Sunday, the speaker said the agreement between the two leaders is not about political rivalry.
Wetang'ula said that the country should work together to achieve the agenda and realise the future.
"The UDA-ODM pact is a step in the right direction for Kenya. A united Kenya is a stronger Kenya. The agreement between President Ruto and Raila Odinga is not about political rivalry it’s about dialogue over division," Wetang'ula said on X hours after attending a Sunday service.
"We are one people and the future demands that we work together for the good of our country."
Several other leaders welcomed the partnership with ODM national chairman Gladys Wanga saying it will enhance equity in the country.
Wanga said the unity transcends Ruto and Raila, given that the two leaders have seen it all in Kenya’s political system.
“The unity and stability and prosperity of this country is not the responsibility of a few; it is the responsibility of all of us, as a nation. And while we may have different political persuasions and come from different parts of the country and different schools of thought, nobody can fault unity. Nobody can fault equity,” she stated.
The working arrangement will see both UDA and ODM share political infrastructure on matters of national interest.
They will also deploy their best experts for consultations on matters concerning the governance of the country.
Thousands of ODM supporters thronged the KICC ahead of the signing of the pact on Friday.
In his statement, Wetang'ula further said the Social Health Authority (SHA) is already making a difference and is working.
According to him, in the past, private hospitals received 90 per cent of NHIF funds, while public hospitals, serving 80 per cent of Kenyans only got 10 per cent.
"That was an injustice that denied millions quality healthcare. Now, reforms are ensuring fairness and access for all. I encouraged everyone to register and be part of this transformation," he said.
