Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has insisted that it is time to prioritise development issues over politics.

Speaking in Mlango Kubwa, Mathare, Kindiki said it is the reason they have decided to have presidential development tours across the country.

This week, President William Ruto and the Deputy President are traversing the county of Nairobi, commissioning development projects and inspecting the ongoing ones.

On Tuesday, they took the development tour to Mathare constituency, where he reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure education for all children of Kenya.

Kindiki said this is because education is the only equalizer for all Kenyans.

“The President has come here because of the education of the children of Mathare. Education is what will equalize our Kenyan children.

“Secondly, it is to ensure that in this Kenya of ours, development issues have taken first place before politics,” the DP said.

He further urged that for Kenya to grow and achieve its full potential, all must be united.

Kindiki discouraged any form of division along ethnic or religious lines.

“For our country to develop, we must be one united nation and stop divisions along ethnic lines or religion.”

He was among the leaders who had accompanied President Ruto for his Mathare development tour.

During the tour, Ruto officially opened the newly constructed 800-bed dormitory at St. Teresa Girls Secondary School.

He also commissioned the construction of classrooms at Mabatini Primary School and Mathari Mixed Secondary School.

Speaking at St. Teresa Girls, President Ruto said his administration will provide Sh1 billion for the construction of additional classrooms in Nairobi County.

Ruto said the funds would be in addition to what will be provided for the construction of classrooms under the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

He noted that this will help in ensuring the availability of the requisite facilities to provide quality education to the many children who go to informal schools.

“We have too many children in informal schools that do not have requisite facilities to make sure our children get requisite education. That is why we have agreed with your leaders that other than CDF, we have added Sh1 billion to build additional classes in Nairobi,” he said.
