A section of Machakos MCAs have vowed to shoot down any impeachment motion against Speaker Ann Kiusya.
The 22 county legislators claimed that some forces were out to frustrate Kiusya by sponsoring a motion to oust her for her hard stance and commitment to the House’s oversight role.
“We are not ready to eat monies that are supposed to buy medicine for cancer patients as well as provide dialysis services to patients in need. We stand with our speaker and she is equal to the task,” Mwala MCA Brian Kisila said.
They addressed the press outside the assembly on Wednesday.
The MCAs, majority of whom are from the minority side, said they have numbers to deny those intending to table and push for the speaker’s impeachment.
“We are 59 MCAs at the Machakos County Assembly and they require 75 per cent, that’s at least 45 votes which they can’t get. We are going nowhere; let’s meet when they want for the motion,” Kisila said.
Masinga Central MCA Joshua Mwonga said the 22 MCAs who issued the presser are the ones committed to serving the electorate as expected of them.
“We were elected to agitate for the electorate’s fundamental rights and ensure Machakos residents get development projects that they deserve. On the speaker’s impeachment, she is going nowhere. Anne Kiusya is going nowhere, we are independent as County Assembly of Machakos and we shall stand firm to ensure that public funds are well utilised,” Mwonga said.
Kyeleni MCA Grace Bahati said they will stand in solidarity with Kiusya stating that she is the only female speaker in the country.
“We are here to show solidarity with our speaker. She is the only female speaker in the country, she wants to be impeached because of doing her job right at the assembly as Speaker,” Bahati said.
Bahati said as elected MCAs, they have the responsibility of ensuring that the public get services and development.
“We will keep agitating for the electorate. We have offered ourselves. Even if we will remain ten MCAs at the assembly pushing for public interests, we will keep pressing on,” she said.
The county legislators vowed to fiercely oppose the impending motion set to be tabled, seeking to impeach Kiusya.
They claimed that the impeachment motion was being unfairly orchestrated.
The MCAs threatened to expose the truth behind the motive.
