Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones has said all the departments in the county government are working well, even without Governor Susan Kihika being around.

Speaking at Nyayo Gardens when he commissioned a drilling rig for the county, he said the county operations are running smoothly because of the organisation made by Kihika.

“She is a team leader. She gave us very good organisation on how to work on our various departments,” he said on Wednesday.

“There is no department which is not carrying out its roles. Every department is working. So, with or without the governor being around, everything is going on very well.”

He emphasised that the work being done is attributed to Kihika’s leadership, adding that having the right people in the right departments is a boost.

Kones said on January 14, 2025, the county leadership issues ECDE chairs and books.

He added that he has held several meetings on behalf of the governor.

“I want to state it very clearly that there is no vacuum, and whoever is propagating propaganda wants to remain relevant, and I am telling you that they are irrelevant,” he said.

The DG said Kihika wrote a letter posted on all other platforms, including WhatsApp, that she had delegated her work to him, saying, “the governor has faith in me and the officers so there is no vacuum”.

He stated that he has not taken the position of the governor, adding that he is supporting her in all ways.

Kones said that Kihika is on legitimate maternity leave.

“It is very shameful for some people to discuss Governor Kihika in a demeaning manner. Giving birth is a natural thing and should not be used to fight her. Let people be respectful and give her time to complete her leave before she resumes duty,” he said.

Earlier on, women leaders condemned the public scrutiny of Kihika, terming it as intolerance to a new mother.

Led by nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, they appealed to the public to exercise patience, citing that women navigate a tough balancing act between work and family.

"The journey to motherhood is difficult; it brings post-medical issues. Her absence has been caused by unforeseen circumstances. The nation should be patient and exercise empathy,” the leaders said.
