Court to hear case filed by Koome challenging removal from office
The court will today hear a case filed by Chief Justice Martha Koome and four other Supreme Court judges challenging their removal from office.
Koome, her deputy Philomena Mwilu and three others had earlier filed separate cases before the High Court against the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Koome, Mwilu, and Justices Njoki Ndung’u, Mohamed Ibrahim and Isaac Lenaola were seeking to quash petitions filed by lawyer Nelson Havi, former CS Raphael Tuju and lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi’s associates.
They want Koome and the judges out of office over alleged gross misconduct and incompetence.
In February, the individuals after the removal of the Supreme Court judges suffered a blow after the high court in Narok suspended JSC’s orders requiring judges to respond to petitions seeking their removal from the bench.
A section of the JSC had on January 27 issued directions requiring Koome to submit responses with respect to the petitions.
