

President William Ruto has pledged to invest billions in
development projects in Meru county.
The President told residents that his administration has sourced for Sh1.8 billion to connect thousands of homes to electricity in the county.
The President who spoke in Tigania West on his scond day of Mt Kenya visit said the government will work together with local leaders to identify areas left behind in electricity coverage.
The funds are expected to greatly boost connectivity in the county and boost local economies while alleviating insecurity.
Ruto further pledged to construct eight new modern markets as a way of empowering local farmers and providing a dignified environment for traders to sell their wares.
Some of the areas that will benefit with the markets include Maua, Athiru, Kianjai, Mutuati, Tiamu, Laare and Mikinduri.
President Ruto also announced that his government has allocated Sh900 million that will go towards completing stalled road projects.
“This money will go towards paying contractors whose projects have stalled so they can complete them,” he said.
Road networks, Ruto said, are vital for grassroots economies as they allow farmers to smoothly undertake their agricultural activities while easing business activities.
The President also launched Sh100 million Kibiru beef feedlot that will provide livestock vaccines, artificial insemination and a livestock restocking programme.
Earlier, Ruto pledged to deploy a team of government officials to help upgrade Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital to a parastatal, and allow the county to channel funds currently being directed to the level 6 hospital to other health facilities.
The team will also visit Maua Stadium that is currently flooded due to recent rains and formulate a plan to rehabilitate it.
He also issued 10,800 title deeds to Athanwa residents, pledging to have more issued by Lands Cabinet Secretary in coming days.
The President also launched the Maua Sewerage Line that will serve more than 13,000 people in Maua and laid the foundation stone for Maua Huduma Centre that will host over 20 government departments.
