The hearing of the case against suspects accused of killing former Kabete MP George Muchai is set to proceed at the High Court today.

Justice Kanyi Kimondo will hear more testimonies from the prosecution.

During the last hearing in February, Assistant Superintendent of Police Stephen Mwangi uncovered an extensive web of communication between the seven accused persons before and after the brutal murder of Muchai.

Mwangi revealed that the accused had been in constant contact, with some exchanging over 150 phone calls during the crucial days leading up to and following Muchai's death.

The accused are Eric Muyera Isabwa alias chairman, Raphael Kimani alias Kim Butcher, Mustapha Kimani alias Musto, Stephen Astiva alias Chokore, Jane Wanjiru alias Shiro, Margaret Njeri, and Simon Wambugu.

They have, however, denied the charges.

Mwangi, the prosecution's thirty-seventh witness, presented a detailed communication analysis matrix before the court, illustrating the intricate partners of phone calls exchanged between the accused from February 1 to February 10, 2015.

The report, which was produced as an exhibit before the court, painted a stark picture of the conspiracy that may have culminated in Muchai's killing.

Mwangi, who oversees communication analysis and data integration, explained that he extracted data from the mobile numbers of the seven accused persons.

He highlighted a key connection between Raphael and Asitiva, who exchanged phone calls 100 times before, during, and after Muchai's death.

The analysis also revealed that Jane Wanjiru, the fifth accused, had engaged in 150 phone calls with the third accused, Stephen Asitiva.

In the same court, a police officer attached to Parliament is expected to plead to murder charges following an incident in which he is accused of shooting his colleague to death.

Another was seriously injured.

The officer has been in detention at the Spring Valley Police Station after his lawyer argued against his detention at Gigiri Police Station due to what the lawyer termed as threats to his life.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations had sought to detain him for 21 days to complete investigations.

Investigators told the court that additional time was needed to record a statement from a key witness who was hospitalized, conduct ballistic tests on the confiscated firearm at DCI headquarters, and complete forensic analysis.

A postmortem report on the deceased is also required to determine appropriate charges.

All that is now complete, and the officer will appear before Justice Kimondo at the High Court in Nairobi.
