Long serving Ambrose Rachier has been re-elected as the Chairman of Gor Mahia Football Club.

In the election held on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium, Rachier garnered 658 votes against his main challenger, Dolfina Odhiambo who bagged 456 votes.

“Ambrose Rachier has been elected Gor Mahia chairperson after garnering 658 votes against Dolfina Odhiambo who bagged 456 votes,” the Club wrote on its official X account.

The election means Rachier remains at the helm of the Kenyan Premier League side for another four years.

The advocate of the High Court has been the club’s chairman since 2008.

He will be at the helm until 2029.

Rachier, who has been at the helm of the club for 17 years, was initially listed as the only contestant for the chairman position.

However, on Saturday, April 12, Gor Mahia's electoral board released the final list of candidates including Odhiambo in the race.

Dolphina previously served as the club's treasurer.

Sally Bolo has also been elected as the new vice chairperson with 610 votes against Victor Mbaka who got 488 votes.

“Nick Arum is the new Gor Mahia Secretary General; floors the incumbent Sam Ocholla with 582 votes against 501 votes.”

The election went on despite earlier incidents in the general elections held at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

Police fired teargas to disperse crowds at the stadium after chaos erupted, causing confusion.

Delegates and fans scampered to safety with police in hot pursuit.

The elections followed a ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) in January for the club to conduct elections within 90 days, after its 2019 constitution gave the current executives four years to serve.

The elections were held alongside the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
