Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said that government critics must do so in a way that does not risk the country’s unity, stability and peace.
Speaking on Sunday, Kindiki said that freedom of expression is guaranteed by the government it is possible for the critics to express their views without inciting the people.
He insisted that without peace and stability, there will be no development in Kenya.
“I must emphasise that even as we contribute to the growth of our democracy, we must not endanger the stability, unity and peace of our nation. It is possible to air your different views without hurting national stability, peace and harmony, inawezekana,” the Deputy President said.
“The peace, stability and unity of Kenya takes precedence over all the other issues. The roads we are building, the electricity we are connecting and the jobs we trying to get our young people, all these can be undermined if our national unity, peace and stability is compromised.”
The Deputy President spoke on Sunday during an interdenominational Church Service at Mutenkuar in Kilgoris, Narok county.
Kindiki said any person advancing rhetoric or inciting actions that undermine national unity, peace and stability must be rejected.
He added that all development programmes and projects being implemented by the government will only be fruitful if there is national unity.
The DP reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza administration is determined to develop every ward, constituency and county in the country equitably, and ensure all citizens have equal access to government services and opportunities.
“The government is ensuring that as we share national resources across all the 47 counties, the 290 constituencies, 1,450 wards because all Kenyans deserve equal treatment for we all belong here,” Kindiki said.
He stated that Narok county has benefitted immensely from last-mile connectivity, affordable housing, modern markets and other key projects to improve the lives of residents.
