Ruto gazettes appointment of two CSs , 14 PSs

On Wednesday, MPs unanimously voted to approve the appointments of Ruku and Cheptumo as CSs.

President William Ruto has appointed two Cabinet Secretaries, who will formally take over their dockets from April 17, 2025.

The two include Geoffrey Ruku (Public Service) and Hannah Cheptumo (Gender).

Ruku was nominated in the latest cabinet changes that saw Justin Muturi fired from the Public Service docket. 

Cheptumo was nominated to the Cabinet to fill the position of Gender CS that has not had a substantive holder since the dismissal of the entire Cabinet on July 11, 2024.

She will take over from Aisha Jumwa, who was dismissed.

On Wednesday, the Members of the National Assembly unanimously voted to approve the appointments of Ruku and Cheptumo as CSs.

The approval came a few days after the two were vetted by the Committee on Appointments to serve in the Public Service and Gender ministries.

The report from the Committee on Appointments was tabled on Tuesday.

"Taking into consideration the finding of the Committee on Appointments in its fifth report on the vetting of the nominees for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries, laid on the table of the House on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 and pursuant to the provisions of Article 152(2) of the constitution and section 3 and 8 of the Public Appointments Act, Cap 7(f) this house approves the appointment of the following persons as Cabinet Secretaries; Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku to the ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Projects and Hanna Wendot Cheptumo to the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage."

The two were vetted on Monday after nomination by Ruto.

The President also appointed 14 Principal Secretaries, with effect from April 17, 2025.

They include Jane Kere Imbunya, Regina Akoth Ombam, Cyrell Odede Wagunda, Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, Fredrick Ouma Olaga, Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim, and Judith Nayiai Ramaita-Pareno.

Others are Bonface Barasa Makokha, Shaukat Ali Abdulrazak, Stephen Isaboke, Michael Lenasalon, Fikirini Jacobs Katoi Kahindi, Carren Ageng'o Achieng and Aden Abdi Millah.
