Deputy President Kithure Kindiki assured that all promises made by the government will be fulfilled before the next elections in order to improve the lives of Kenyans.
Speaking on Thursday at Dundori, Bahati Constituency in Nakuru County, when he inspected ongoing development projects, the Deputy President said the focus now is on developing the country via key projects targeting raising the socio-economic status of all citizens.
The DP checked on the progress of the Dundori ESP Market, funded by the national government, which is set for completion early next June.
“I want to assure you that we are working hard to fulfill all the promises we made to the people of Kenya. Before we come back to ask for your votes again, we will account for each and every promise we made to the people of Kenya,” said DP Kindiki.
The Deputy President said the government is constructing 19 modern markets in Nakuru County, and two more will be commenced soon. In Bahati, three are ongoing.
“We promised our small-scale traders, including mama mboga, that we will provide decent places to do their business and make a living. That is why we are fully focused on building these markets, which will be completed on time,” DP stated.
Countrywide, the government is funding over 400 markets, which are in various stages of completion.
On top of dignified trading areas, the markets will also have cold rooms to preserve perishable goods and also host ICT hubs for youth to do digital jobs, as well as special places for lactating mothers.
The government is also reviving all the stalled roads in the county as well as expanding electricity connection through the last-mile program that is being rolled out across the country.
“We have the resources to connect over 1 million new customers across the country. In Nakuru, we are targeting 56,000 new connections,” indicated Prof Kindiki.
The DP also called for a meeting with leaders from Nakuru next week to solve pending issues on the issuance of title deeds and shamba-system farming in the area as requested by the residents.
“As requested by the people, I have asked Kenya Forest Service officers not to harass residents as we work with the leaders to ensure the shamba-system is done without harassment and without destroying our forests,” DP affirmed.
Prof Kindiki said issuance of title deeds will be speeded up as urged by the residents.
“I have spoken with the Lands CS and PS and the county government to hurry preparation and distribution of title deeds for the people of Dundori and other areas in Nakuru, including Subukia and Gilgil,” he revealed.
Prof Kindiki also informed the residents of the government’s unwavering commitment to continue to lower the cost of living through subsidizing farm input, lowering inflation and the rate of foreign exchange to ease the prices of food and other critical necessities.
