Japanese Minister of Reconstruction Hiromichi Watanabe and Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov signed a memorandum on the reconstruction of Ukraine on Monday, Japan's Kyodo news agency reported.
Japan intends to use its experience in reconstruction after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami to help Ukraine rebuild housing and sewage systems, restore transport infrastructure and provide equipment for schools, the report said.
The Japanese government has been holding consultations with Ukraine on the issue since March.
Earlier in June, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida pledged $5 million in aid to Ukraine for damages caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River amid the ongoing military conflict with Russia.
Many Western countries have expressed a desire to assist in Ukraine's post-conflict reconstruction.
Last fall, Kiev estimated the country's post-conflict reconstruction needs at about $750 billion, while the World Bank said in March that at least $411 billion would be needed over the next 10 years.
