The National Police Service on Tuesday deployed officers of the Airwing to save a little boy who had been marooned by floods at Nduani village in Yatta, Machakos County.
The officers were called in after attempts by Red Cross and residents to bring the boy to safety proved futile.
Five-year-old Mutuku Kioko had been trapped on a small sectionm of the village by floodwaters caused by the ongoing heavy rain that has been pounding the area since Monday.
In a statement, NPS said pilots under Captain Chief Inspector Evans Okoth, First Officer Captain Chief Inspector Loise Wangui and Flight Engineer Bernard Orimba, Superintendent of Police were part of the team of responders to the emergency.
The flight took off from the Wilson Airport on the rescue mission.
Kioko had been left behind by his father, Martin Kioko, after water level started rising.
Upon rescue, the boy was embraced by his family and the community who celebrated their safe reunion.
NPS Airwing headed by Commandant Captain James Kabo and Assistant Inspector General of Police was responsible for facilitating all forms of security-related aerial work by government agencies.
They include observation, patrol, photography, aerial survey and dropping of supplies and security equipment among others.
