Radio Africa Group on Friday held a farewell party to outgoing Convergence Director William Pike

Pike, who founded the Star Newspaper, exits the company after serving for 17 years.

Group CEO Martin Khafafa expressed kind words to Pike saying he stood for editorial integrity, which is a testimony of his virtues.

“If not for you, I do not think the Star will be where it is. Thank you, William. I wish you well. You have got me smartly polished,” he said.

“I will not hesitate to consult you.”

In his exit speech, the outgoing director, who is also a shareholder, said though he will miss working closely with Radio Africa staff,  he will endeavour to make frequent visits to the company to interact with staff.

“I will miss all of you. The only thing that makes me very sad is that I’m going to say goodbye to the people I have worked with. I’m still in Kenya and I will be popping by,” he said.

Pike used his exit speech to walk the staff down memory lane of when he met former CEO Patrick Quackoo after which they embarked on a journey to establish Radio Africa Group.

The new Radio Africa’s Group Editorial Director Paul Ilado said he has learnt a lot from Pike adding that he has been more of a leader than a boss.

“Even as you retire know this. We will write a book and we will dedicate space to you. Not because it is a favour but because you have earned it,” Ilado said.
