Residents of Kowuor village, Boya Sublocation within Ndhiwa Subcounty Iin Homa Bay are living in fear following frequent invasions by hyenas that have allegedly killed some of their livestock.
According to them, the latest incident occurred last night when a group of hyenas raided a homestead belonging to a farmer and killed his bull.
Confirming the incident, the area Assistant Chief Milton Kawino said the attacks have been on the rise recently.
”Yesterday night a pack of hyenas invaded one of the local farmers’ pen and killed a bull,” Kawino said.
He said the hyenas have been spotted by area residents roaming around freely day and night.
Kawino said the hyenas are suspected to have strayed from Ruma National Park and were hiding in the nearby bushes.
The administrator implored Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) officers to intervene and help salvage the situation to protect the farmers from further losses.
