Feminism is just another word for equality and no one should object to equality.
However, being in the 21st century some women are still being treated as objects.
The constitution states that not more than two-thirds of members of all elective and appointive positions should be of the same gender.
However, there are people who feel that the two-thirds gender rule is still in favour of men and that the implementation of women is still minimal.
What people do not realise is that feminism is all about empowerment.
Actress, filmmaker Mika Simmons said, “Because Feminism is not self-centred – Feminism is a movement, a movement towards liberation that can be accessed by anyone who lives in a free country. And once you find freedom, your global responsibility is to help those who still long for it, empowering women, and men, everywhere.”
Influential platforms such as Instagram and TikTok have also been on the rise for body-shaming women who are perceived as fat.
This has degraded them and hence the need to be treated equally as men.
Sexual harassment in workplaces also occurs more to women than men.
Female Genital Mutilation is also on the rise as 200 million girls and women alive today have been subjected to the practice with more than 3 million girls at risk annually. Society should continue emphasising the disadvantages of this practice as it may be fatal.
Feminism should be the reason to support both the girl and boy child in equal measures and no discrimination of race, status or class.
Society should tell the young generation to fight for a more equal world to live in peace in future.
The feminism movement should be inclusive of all and the government both at the national and county level should advocate policies towards women empowerment, leadership, protection from discrimination and create a better environment for our future generation.
