The former ruling party Jubilee is an independent outfit and should have a presidential candidate to make it politically relevant.

They should continue to market their preferred presidential candidate across the country.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua should also continue with what he is doing, consulting Kenyans. Gachagua should prepare his own political vehicle so that they sit down towards elections for talks and agree on how to approach the polls.

I know they were on opposing ends during handshake, but remember the same case happened in 2002 elections when Raila, Kalonzo and Mwai Kibaki were on opposing sides but towards elections they sat down and agreed on a single candidate.

From my end, it is a good idea to ensure that Jubilee does not die but should be strengthened and market its candidate, so that when they negotiate they will narrow down to one joint candidate and agree on how to accommodate the rest.

There are many factors that should be looked at in the process of political negotiations.

The move by the Jubilee Party is welcome and it is good progress in terms of strengthening individual political outfits.

I don’t think Gachagua has expressly declared his candidature for Uhuru to endorse him as it is being claimed.

The only person who has declared his candidature is Kalonzo. Even Matiang’i himself has not declared, it is only people who are speculating.

If you remember what Martha Karua said when the former Deputy President visited the Narc Kenya leader in Gichugu, they agreed to work together.

Everyone should sell his or her own candidature, then they will have negotiations towards the elections. Whoever will be popular and is acceptable in all the regions will fly the flag of the coalition as the joint candidate for the 2027 elections.

Jubilee Party backing the former Interior Cabinet Secretary is, thus, within the game plan to ensure that we get to all corners of the country before coming up with a candidate who will carry the day.
