Pictures of victims of police shootings in the anti-government protests are horrific.

Some have their heads blown off while others, including a child, bear ghastly multiple bullet wounds.

One person was reportedly shot 40 times in Githurai. With just three demonstrations, hospitals are overwhelmed. This is unacceptable and indefensible.

The senseless killings can never be justified.

The brainless policing culture must stop. Some operate with impunity and clearly outside the law. Why would a police officer be hooded, like a terrorist, and drive in unmarked cars?

The answer is simple: evade public accountability while committing a crime under the guise of law and order.

The mindless killings, during protests, is a disgraceful legacy. No civilised society treats its youths like disposable rubbish. No civilised society guns down its youth like hunters picking off game.

Yet, despite public uproar, the pig-headed police chiefs have seen no reason to change.

The law is crystal clear on the use of firearms: to protect themselves or a third party against impending life-threatening harm.

Yet the police execute peaceful youths some “armed” with only their phones and bottles of water.

IPOA is a toothless bulldog that must redeem its image and hold the police accountable.

Kenyans are dying to see change.
