Last week, President William Ruto announced that he would change his Cabinet "shortly".

This announcement has understandably drawn speculation and anxiety among government officials, especially Cabinet and permanent secretaries.

President Ruto has a critical opportunity to reshape his administration to prioritise competence and meritocracy over other considerations.

Some of the current CSs have struggled to deliver meaningful results; a Cabinet reshuffle presents a chance to bring in fresh talent and dynamic leadership.

While factors like regional balance are important, they should not supersede the need for skilled, results-oriented individuals who can drive progress on the key issues facing our country.

Kenyans deserve CSs who are not only qualified for their roles but also possess a clear vision and the ability to execute it effectively.

The reshuffle need not be viewed as a source of anxiety.

Kenyans are eager to see results, and a swift, judicious reshuffle could be the catalyst needed to kickstart a new era of good governance and tangible progress.

The time for action is now. Ruto should waste no time in effecting these changes, sending a clear message that his administration values excellence above all else.
