All the best Team Kenya at Paris Olympics

We wish Team Kenya all the best as they compete against the world’s best.

In Summary

• The Team Kenya management, led by the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee, must ensure everything is above board.

• Unfortunately, boxing, the next second-most Olympic sport after athletics, will be out of the Games.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games is officially underway in France, where athletes across six disciplines are representing Kenya.

These include rugby Sevens, volleyball, swimming, fencing, judo and athletics.

We wish Team Kenya all the best as they compete against the world’s best.

The Team Kenya management, led by the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee, must ensure everything is above board.

Nothing should go wrong, especially based on the experiences of Rio 2016.

They must prioritise the athletes while putting every taxpayer’s coin to good use.

We saw impressive qualifying campaigns and even though not all goals were met, relative sanity reigned.

That’s the way it should be. Let us enjoy the athletes’ performances and achievements instead of negative stories post-Games.

Unfortunately, boxing, the next second-most Olympic sport after athletics, will be out of the Games.

Concerned individuals and bodies must streamline the industry in the next Olympic cycle — towards Los Angeles 2028.

More should be done too to help Shujaa, who across three Games – Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 – failed to reach the quarterfinals.

The Ministry of Sports should also prioritise diversification to ensure more athletes and disciplines compete at the next Games, LA 2028.
