The government of Governor Johnson Sakaja has taken the rather unusual path, in its bills feud with power giant Kenya Power and Lighting Company, to play dirty literary by spilling a mountain of dirt on KPLC’s doorstep.

And as though the stench the garbage discharged was not enough, Sakaja’s zestful technicians yesterday went a step further and targeted internet communication at Stima Plaza which they cut off to press their case.

At the centre of the brouhaha is a claim by City Hall that KPLC owes it Sh4.8 billion in an unsettled way leave charges. But Kenya Power raises the unpaid electricity charges (Sh3 billion) which City Hall has not yet settled.

The county mandarins seem to be furious that the power giant made billions but has been taking its sweet time. Sakaja’s team, like the mafiaa, has exposed its capacity to play dirty.

The law is clear as to the dispute procedures that must come into play. Those processes must have been incorporated into the very construct both parties signed at the start of the contract.

Sakaja and his team must be told that taking the law into their hands and doing whatever they wish on account of the powers they enjoy will never provide a lasting solution.

KPLC must be commended for exercising self restrain and not resorting to a tit for tat because City Hall would be engulfed in total.

The thuggish approach to debt collection is unacceptable in a country with the laws to solve disputes.
