Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has insisted that the deals between the government and the Adani group are unacceptable.

In a statement, Karua stated that the deals have not been transparent and competitively awarded as required by the Constitution.

She stated that the process also lacked meaningful public participation, yet the Constitution grants sovereign power to the people, on all matters.

"But in this case, the people’s views were not included," she claimed.

The former Justice Minister questioned the duration of the said deals, saying it looks like it binds at least four generations.

“The Adani deals that are JKIA, Ketraco and any other deal are indefensible, for not being transparently and competitively arrived at and for lacking meaningful public participation. The thirty-year duration of these Adani concessions bind my generation, our children, our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren-four generations," Karua stated on X.

“Our constitution affirms the sovereignty of the people, the right to public participation in all matters affecting the people, these concessions were arrived at unconstitutionally in an opaque manner and without taking into account people’s views, and are therefore null and void.”

The Adani topic has been of great concern in the country with protests initially taking place over their proposal to renovate and take charge of the management of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (Ketraco) on Friday signed a Sh95.68 billion deal with Adani Energy Solutions Limited.

Adani Energy Solutions will manage the transmission line for 30 years, ensuring long-term sustainability and efficiency, and after that transfer the project and all its assets to Ketraco.

Under the deal, five transmission lines and substations will be developed.

Despite uproar and lobby groups going to court to stop the deals, Opposition leader Raila Odinga has endorsed the deal.
