Social media has recently been beaming with trends of a Trans Nzoia Chief whose remarks warmed Kenyans' hearts.

The Saboti Chief warmed the hearts of many Kenyans after a viral video of him hilariously narrating an alleged homicide case.

In the video that has since gone viral for many years, Chief Protus Wechuli is heard explaining how a man was irritated by the vegetables his mother had prepared.

His mother had prepared ‘misheveve’ (pumpkin leaves) while he wanted ‘sarat’ (African Kales).

The irritation led to an altercation where the son jumped and threatened to beat up his mother, on hearing the commotion from the bedroom, the father rushed to help his mother.

The chief passionately narrated how the man aimed for his father’s fingers trying to chew them like he was eating ‘omena’ (sardine).

His narration captured the attention of many, with others saying that he is naturally hilarious and wants to connect with the community through his way of communication.

In an interview with Tumbili TV, Chief Wechuli said that the video of him narrating the incident was shot 14 years ago but has come to limelight recently.

“Akaulizia Mama, umepika mboga gani, mama akasema, leo nimeunda misheveve. Kijana akasema sikutaka hizi, nilitaka sarat,” the Chief narrated in 2008.

He added:

“Akaanza sasa kumzaba Mama makofi, makofi kwa wingi tena zaidi, mzee kuamka kwa kitanda akasema hapana, mwanamke wangu hawezi nyengwa hivi. Alianza kwa kutafuna mzee vidole, alitafuna mzee vidole kama omena na kumbe anafanya hesabu ya minus kwa maisha yam zee na mzee ni mkasa.”

Chief Wechuli has been at the forefront of fighting for justice and articulating the rights of girls and women in a way the local community understands.

In a one-on-one with Tumbili TV, the chief arrived in his office onboard Bodaboda, alighted and greeted residents with all smiles.

He attributed his good relations with residents to his humour and free interaction.

“You cannot have stiff-neck in matters of administration; if you become like that, people will run away from you. Sometimes you have to be full of authority, attract people and while at it you monitor the areas that have a problem and later tackle them,” he said.

Chief Wechuli said that he makes an appearance personally at a place where a problem has been reported.

He said that being on the ground, he is able to account for exactly what happened and handle it accordingly.

The father of seven children said that he treasures family as it is a foundation of the future generation.

He explained that his older children with his first child had graduated with Masters in the University.

His other children have successfully graduated from various universities and are seeking employment.
