Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has asked the Anglican Church of Kenya’s Arch Bishop, Jackson Ole Sapit to pray for her.

Speaking on Saturday, Nakhumicha said that it has not been easy since she lost her job as a Cabinet Secretary.

She went on to say that given the uniqueness of her name, everywhere she goes people see the lady from the Health ministry.

The former CS, however, said that God has been good to him and that she is expecting good tides to come her way soon.

“Bishop pray for me. It’s not easy having been a minister then all of a sudden you are just Nakhumicha. And you know my name is unique, ukisema tu Nakhumicha watu wanaona ule mama wa Afya. Naomba uendelee kuniombea naona Mungu amenitia mema na pia natarajia mema. (When you say Nakhumicha people see the woman from the Ministry of health. Please continue to pray for me, I see that God has given me good things and I also expect good things),” she said.

Nakhumicha had attended the funeral service of Rodah Lusaka, the mother of Bungoma Governor Ken Makelo Lusaka.

After President William Ruto fired his entire Cabinet on July 11, 2024, Nakhumicha who was short of serving in Cabinet for two years was among those dismissed entirely.

Half of Ruto’s cabinet was dismissed at the time and those who were reappointed returned to different ministries, save for Prof Kithure Kindiki who returned to the Interior Ministry.

Nakhumicha was replaced by Dr Debora Barasa Mulongo.

Since then, she has taken a back seat and is living a quiet life away from the limelight. She, however, makes occasional appearances.

Nakhumicha’s tenure at the Ministry of Health was marred by persistent doctor strikes.

She would later say that her biggest regret while serving as CS was not being able to settle the issues doctors had and have them return to work as fast.
