Two die in separate road accidents in Muranga, Kirinyaga

Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents that occurred in Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties on Sunday 20 October 2024.

In the first incident, a fatal crash occurred along the busy Kenol - Sagana Road near the Kwa Samaki area in Murang’a South.

At around 1:30 pm, a truck being driven by the deceased was heading towards Kenol when it was hit from behind by an Isuzu.

The collision resulted in severe injuries to one of the passengers in the Isuzu. The injured passenger was immediately rushed to Mwea Karira Hospital for emergency treatment.

Unfortunately, despite the quick response, the passenger was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The body has since been moved to the hospital’s morgue, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.

Police officers visited the accident scene to assess the situation and conduct preliminary investigations.

Both vehicles involved in the collision were towed to the local police station for further inspection.

Authorities are now conducting investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

Elsewhere in Kirinyaga County, a road accident occurred on the same day along Karatina - Sagana Road near Kibirigwi in Mwea West Division.

The accident involved two vehicles and a pedestrian.

According to reports, the two vehicles, a Toyota Alion and a Toyota Matatu were both heading in the same direction towards Sagana.

The police said that at the Kibirigwi area, the matatu is alleged to have hit the rear side of the Toyota Alion, causing both vehicles to lose control and veer off the road.

Tragically, during the incident, the matatu hit a pedestrian walking on the right side of the road.

The pedestrian sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is said that the authorities quickly responded to the accident, with police officers visiting the scene to take necessary measures.

The body of the deceased was transferred to Kerugoya County Hospital morgue for postmortem examination.

Both vehicles involved in the crash were towed to the local police station, where they are awaiting inspection as part of the ongoing investigation into the accident to shed light on the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
