Former President Uhuru Kenyatta celebrated his 63rd birthday this Saturday, October 26.

Although he is currently outside the country, Uhuru wished Kenyans well and preached peace among them.

In a phone interview with Milele FM, Uhuru said he was doing well and was at peace.

The retired President urged Kenyans to embrace unity.

“I'm well, I'm at peace and I'm grateful to God. I'm praying for peace and understanding in our nation as this is the only way our country will grow and prosper," he said.

"Nowadays, I do not speak much but I wish peace and unity to Kenyans. We all should know that we are human beings and have needs; we should stop hatred among each other,” the former President said.

“I have never had an issue with anyone and till to date, I have no issue with anyone,” he reiterated.

Uhuru said that he normally celebrates his birthday with his family, however, this year he is out of the country and will celebrate with friends.

The former President is currently in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, to attend the 15th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security, and Stability in Africa.

The retreat which started on October 25 will end on 26, 2024.

Uhuru is attending the event in his capacity as the facilitator of the East Africa Community (EAC)-led Nairobi peace process.

The retreat was called to provide an opportunity to reflect on and review the AU’s mediation strategies and preventive diplomacy efforts, with the view of determining their impact, suitability and effectiveness in the current context of evolving conflicts in the African continent.

Uhuru expressed gratitude to God for adding him another year and prayed that he continues to bless Kenyans.

“I thank God for the far he has brought me, I thank him for life and all the things he has done to us. I pray that he continues to keep us safe and grant us peace and unity,” he said.

He dedicated a Reggae song to his wife, Margaret Kenyatta.

"I Got You Babe by UB40," Uhuru said when asked what song that was.

He said his favourite meal was ‘nyama choma’ but he was forced to cut it down due to his age.

On his 62nd birthday last year, traders at Gatundu market organised a party to celebrate the retired President.

The traders cut a cake decorated with the Kenyan flag, with one tire decorated with a court and tie.

There were also soft dilutable drinks on the display.

The former President was, however, not present at the party.
