Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday made his first public appearance since he was discharged from hospital last weekend.

The impeached DP attended a church service at St James ACK Cathedral in Kiambu town in his Central Kenya backyard.

In his remarks, Gachagua made a special appeal to Kenyans to pray for President William Ruto saying he has a huge task to handle.

He said Kenyans should pray for wisdom for the President for them to get some relief in their daily struggles.

Gachagua lamented that Kenyans are currently helpless and navigating hard economic times besides facing challenges in the health sector.

“I ask Kenyans to remain peaceful and pray for our President William Ruto to give him wisdom to navigate the challenges affecting the Kenyan people. Our people are feeling helpless because of economic adversities, over taxation and failing health systems,” Gachagua said.

“The President has a big job to do. We want to ask prayers for him, for God to give him wisdom so that Kenyans can get some relief as they go about their businesses.”

Gachagua was accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcus Rigathi, former UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala and Kiambu Senator, Karungo Wa Thang'wa, among others.

The majority of senators on October 17 voted to confirm five of the 11 charges levelled against Gachagua by Kibwezi West MP, Mwengi Mutuse.

Gachagua went to court and is currently battling in the corridors of justice for survival of his political career.

A three-judge bench is expected to hear consolidated petitions challenging his ouster on October 29.

Gachagua obtained conservatory orders barring the swearing-in of Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as his replacement.

The embattled former DP told court that he was not accorded fair hearing after failing to take to stand on the afternoon he was impeached because he fell ill and got admitted in hospital.

The bench consisting of Freda Mugambi, Eric Ogolla and Anthony Murima declined to recuse themselves from hearing the impeachment case saying they were properly appointed to undertake the assignment.

The three judges said Gachagua has the right to appeal the decision after they dismissed his claim that Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu lacks powers to empanel a bench to hear his case.
