Anyone who loves to party, or take their family out in the country, knows what a task it is to find the perfect club or restaurant.

But visitors to the east side of Mt Kenya will be happy to know that the new Sheriffs Lounge, situated on a breezy, Jacaranda-lined street of Runyenjes Town, has finally re-opened.

Sheriffs Lounge is not only the biggest club in the town, but currently the only lounge for over 50km, travelling from Embu to Chuka towns. It lies on the Embu-Meru highway where, when they bloom, the Jacarada trees give the streets a lavender glow.

Outside the standalone building housing the club, two new statues of rhinos welcome you into the leather seats inside, beautifully colored and well arranged.

The interior design is, to say the least, welcoming.

“The official opening of the lounge will be on August 14. This will be an eye opener to those interested in this business,’’ said Francis Mugendi, the proprietor.

The club has been in existence for at least five years, but was closed early this year for expansion and complete makeover estimated to have cost Sh5 million.

The proprietor adds that the new modern building, luxuriously and tastefully furnished facilities including a conference hall, lodging rooms, VIP Lounge, a restaurant, a bar and a reception area, have been built, effectively bringing the lounge to class of its own.

It offers an excellent entertainment and stopover destination to people interested in inland tours in a serene country setting. Mugendi says the VIP Lounge overlooks Embu-Meru highway and can accommodate more than 20 patrons.

“We are also a few metres from the subcounty headquarters, which guarantees that our premises are very secure,” he says.

Sheriffs also offers a rooftop bar, allowing you picturesque views of Mt Kenya at night, meaning too that working people may also drop by after work to take repose. The music is good, the volume is just right, and the variety of drinks and food is decent.

And in an effort not to be left behind as the world embraces advances in information communication technology, Mugendi says they have become the only club in town to offer projectors and slides in the main bar and free Wifi in the whole facility.

But it is the restaurant that provides a comfortable place to feel at home away from home where one can take his family and enjoy a holiday.

The cuisines are mainly a l carte while the best of African dish and seasonal food and fruits are also available.

It takes approximately two hours to drive from either Nairobi, through Embu Town or from Meru to get to Runyenjes, making the newly established joint a strategic social facility for a weekend in the country side.

Today, revellers will be entertained by renown one man guitarist Mike Rua and the multi-skilled DJ Cheru.
