The scotch egg is a British dish consisting of a shelled, hard-boiled egg that is wrapped in sausage or minced meat. The egg is then covered in breadcrumbs and deep-fried or baked until crispy.
They can be eaten hot or cold as a savoury snack.
The name “Scotch” comes from the term scotched referring to the preparation method of coating something with breadcrumbs and frying it.
INGREDIENTS
- ½ Liter of Vegetable Oil
- 4 eggs
- Ground Pork sausages/ minced meat
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
Pre-heat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius or heat oil in a deep-fryer to 190 degrees Celsius.
Step 2
Place 4 eggs in a sufuria with water and bring to boil. Cover and let them sit for 10-12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, and peel.
Step 3
In a bowl, beat the other 4 eggs. Flatten the ground sausage/ minced meat patty to surround the boiled eggs.
Very lightly, flour the patty and coat it with the beaten egg.
Step 4
Deep-fry until golden brown, ensuring each side is well cooked.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes
Step 5
Cut in half to cool down and serve on a bed of lettuce and sliced tomatoes for garnish. Add mustard or mayonnaise if desired.
Then serve hot or cold with a cold drink or beverage.
