South Korean tech firm has developed what it calls an “Eco-Friendly” toilet that can combust human waste into ashes.

The firm said in a statement part of the disposal process of human waste will involve dehydrating and drying the waste before combusting it into ashes while a biological purification process will be applied on the liquid waste.

The firm says the system is eco-friendly as it will enable the treated water to be fully recycled.

They finished the development of core technologies for the toilet and successfully developed and tested a prototype.

The company plans to offer royalty-free licenses of patents related to the project to developing countries during the commercialisation stage and after making the design more efficient for mass production.

As part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Reinvent the Toilet Challenge launched in 2011, is part of an effort to transform toilet technologies to manage human waste safely and effectively.
