It's fun! Madowo challenges Kenyans to climb Mt Kenya

CNN correspondent Larry Madowo has challenged Kenyans to take a hike up Mount Kenya to experience an interesting adventure.

Madowo who completed a five-day hike up the mountain said during the experience he only saw a few Kenyans up the homeland feature.

"I tricked five friends into joining me to the summit of Mt Kenya, Africa’s second highest peak," he said.

"I saw many tourists but not enough Kenyans so here’s your challenge."

The media personality said together with his friends they had fun up the mountain and during the five days, they went without showers.

"We bantered, bickered and danced through five days, four camps and zero showers until we got to point Lenana 16,355ft away," Madowo said.

Madowo said the activity was the most physically challenging thing he had ever engaged in noting that his friends were the best crew to do it with.

"The great James Kagambi and his team of 22 guides, porters, cooks and trail magicians took amazing care of us.  Some people think I just flew to the peak. Our route; Chogoria Gate to Special Camp, Lake Ellis via Nithi Falls, Lake Michaelson, Simba Tarn and Point Lenana," Madowo said.

To accompany his tweet, he posted a video of him and his friends during their journey.

In the video, they are seen making fun before embarking on their long journey.

The media personality made fun of the situation as well as one of their friends who had brought a suitcase for the hike.

"I'm going up Mt Kenya with a very bad cold, if I don't make it back tell my family I love them and clear my browser history," Madowo said as they broke into laughter.

"Georgie what were you thinking going up the mountain with a suitcase."

The CNN correspondent showed their experience as they camped along Lake Ellis on the second day of their hike.

"We have taken 1 hour 10 minutes to get here. We left at 12;45," one of his friends said.

At their camping site, accompanied by his friends, Madowo embarked on some fitness exercise.

They did their press-ups on the big rocks in the area.

After the third day, they were now approaching the top of the mountain and some of them protected themselves from the snow that was now falling.

They used umbrellas and others used their jackets since the snow was falling like rain.

"Wenye walikua wanataka snow kesho mwapata," one of them shouted.

On the final day when the group reached the peak, they were excited as they took pictures and danced.

"We did it," they all shouted in excitement as they posed for a photo.
