Reading novels is one of the greatest ways a person can enhance their knowledge and understanding.

It leads to a deeper understanding of life and changes your view of the world in general.

Reading a novel can be time-consuming, but it reduces stress and improves mental health.

Most people complain that their reading is wasted since they can’t remember what they read.

However, they don’t realize that the information is still there in their subconscious which affects their thought process in a really powerful way.

According to book lovers, reading novels has improved their communication skills, pronunciation, and how they interact with other people.

Nancy Agutu, a book lover,  said reading novels has enabled her to learn new things that have helped her succeed.

“Novels have made me become intelligent and confident. They have improved my communication and vocabulary," she said.

"I have been able to come up with solutions to my problems and obstacles and move towards the journey of success. They have led me to where I am,” Agutu said.

For a reader to know the right novel to read, interest is key. Your choice of a novel can either make or break your book-reading journey.

The best way is to research on topics that one is interested in. There are several types of novels. They include; mysteries, romance, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, and graphical novels.

The next step is to filter the ones which belong to the topics you want to read about and give them a try.

Also, check on the reviews of the books. Reading the reviews and understanding why the book is great is very important. Sometimes people like or dislike a book for reasons which are not relevant to you.

Someone might say I have read all books on this topic and there’s nothing new. But if it’s going to be the first book for you, then the review does not matter.

Experts reveal that one should read as many books as they can, in a month.

In a recent study by data firm Stadi Analytics and the Writers Guild Kenya (WGK), at least 85 percent of residents living in Nairobi Kenya read regularly, and more than half do so daily.

Women, for instance, prefer to read fictitious materials while men read more of the non-fiction genre, mostly books, magazines, and newspapers.

Generally, books are the most read materials by 86 percent of Nairobians, followed by newspapers at 36 percent.

Older people aged above 45 years were also found to be more frequent readers than younger ones, despite the fact that age doesn’t affect monthly expenditure on reading materials.

According to the latest Gallup report on the state of reading, Americans read an average of 12 books a year which comes out to one book a month.

If one reads just 2 books a month on average, they will be in an elite group of readers compared to American averages.

Readers don't just read a book, they live it. They leave a little life on every page and helps them to live life to the fullest.
