Nigerian singer Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage on Tuesday announced that she will be taking a break from music for some months.
In a statement, the singer explained that because of this she will also have to cancel all shows, she was expected to be part of or headline.
Tiwa said that she had been diagnosed with a virus and doctors had recommended that she take a vocal rest for some months.
She, however, did not reveal how long she would be away from the music scene.
"To my dear Savage Soldiers, I've been fighting off a virus for the past few weeks and was today firmly instructed to be on strict vocal rest for the next few months," Tiwa said.
"I will unfortunately have to postpone all performances including my first-ever headline arena show in London."
The singer apologised to her fans saying that she is devastated by the development.
She also noted that it is what is best for her to do, in an effort to save her voice, adding that she will be back to grace the stage as soon as she is fully recovered.
"I'm heartbroken and devastated but I have to do this to save what's left of my voice.
"I'm so sorry. I love you all and promise to be back performing once I'm fully healed," the singer added.
Tiwa Savage is a darling to many in Africa and abroad, owing to her lyrical prowess.
Last month, she was among artistes who headlined an event dubbed Walker Town in Nairobi, Uhuru Gardens alongside the greats like Congolese singer Fally Ipupa and Kenya's very own Nyashinski.
It was among her last performances before she announced that she would be taking a break from music.
