An onion could be chopped in many different ways depending on the various meals.

Different dishes and cooking techniques demand different onion shapes.

Firstly, you could cut up your onion in the shape of rings. This shape could be used to make onion rings and also when used in sandwiches or burgers.

Cutting up your onion into rings can also be used to garnish meals for example grilled chicken. They could also be used in soup.

You could also decide to dice your onions. The diced onions are small and are uniformly-sized cubes.

This shape ensures that they cook quickly and evenly. A dice refers to cutting food into cubes of a specific size.

This shape can be a great addition to sauces, toppings, stews and soup.

Chopped shape; this is basically cutting the onions into smaller pieces other than their original size.

Chopped onions are bigger than the diced ones which are in the form of cubes.

Alternatively, you could opt to mince your onions. This involves finely cutting up the onions.

This shape is key to dishes that require plenty of onion flavour that also do not require large pieces of onions.

Grating is not necessarily a shape but it is a way to get very small pieces of an onion.

It is essential when you want to achieve a very fine mince which can caramelize quickly.

You could shape your onion into wedges. This involves cutting them into four equally sized sections. This could be used in making meat skewers or in making broths.

The onions can also be cut into half rings. This is done by slicing them along a latitudinal plane.

They can be garnished in burgers,  eaten raw in salads or used to make caramelized onions.

The final shape is cutting your onions into strips. This shape can be used for stir-frying dishes or meat stews.

Stripped onions are a great shape when you want to feel the onions in your meal.
