Recipe: How to make pumpkin rolls

Pumpkin is a common dish in Africa. One can either prepare it by boiling or baking.

Pumpkin is a common dish in Africa. One can either prepare it by boiling or baking.

It can also be used in pastry dishes such as chapati, mandazi, and rolls.

To make your pumpkin rolls, here is what you need. 

Ingredients 

  • 250 grams of flour
  • Baking powder
  • Sugar 
  • 25 grams of canned pumpkin puree
  • Butter
  • One egg
  • oil
  • Cinnamon powder 
  • Ground nuts meg 

Preparation 

Step 1

In a bowl mix the flour, a tablespoon of baking powder and five tablespoons of sugar then mix well.

Add pumpkin puree, three tablespoons of butter, milk and egg and kneed until the dough is soft and smooth.

Step 2

Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and leave it in a warm place for about an hour for it to rise.

Step 3

In a separate bowl add two tablespoons of butter, one teaspoon of cinnamon, and one tablespoon of sugar and nutmeg then stir until smooth.

Step 4

Roll the dough to a large rectangular shape and spread the cinnamon fillings over the dough then trim the ends and divide it into 12 even-sized rolls.

Arrange the rolls on a prepared baking tray. Evenly spread out the rolls so that space can be created.

Step 5

Bake the rolls in an oven for about 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.

When ready remove it from the oven and leave it to cool.

Serve it on a plate and enjoy your pumpkin roll with a soft drink.
