Former President of the United States of America Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are celebrating their 31st marriage anniversary.

The two, through their social media pages, shared sweet words in an admirable display of love.

Barack described Michelle as kind, funny, brilliant and beautiful.

"Happy anniversary, sweetheart! Michelle Obama, you're brilliant, kind, funny, and beautiful—and I'm lucky to call you mine," he said.

On her part, Michelle said:

"31 years, and a lifetime to go. I love going through life with you by my side, Barack Obama. Happy anniversary, honey!"

The two have never shied away from sharing their love for each other online.

While talking about her book, The Light We Carry, in November 2022,  Michelle said their marriage has never been perfect, as one of them is always needing more or giving more.

"Over the years, a lot of young people have asked me about marriage. And my response usually goes something like this: You have to prepare yourself for long stretches of discord and discomfort."

"We have to be willing to listen to each other, honestly and without defensiveness. Only then, can we evolve together," she said.

She went on to advise those who are getting into a relationship to ask themselves tough questions.

"What are you trying to get out of this relationship? Have you truly thought it through? Do you want a wedding or do you want a lifelong partnership?" she asked.

In her new book The Light We Carry, Michelle admits she struggles with negative thoughts about her appearance and her "fearful mind" adding that women need to "learn to love ourselves as we are".

She also described her husband Barack Obama as her home.

Michelle said as an adult, she had lived in a number of places but had only had one real home.

"My home is my family. My home is Barack," she said.
