Algeria celebrates 70th national day, reaffirms its commitment to partnering with Kenya

Both governments stated their committement to strengthening partnership

The Algerian Embassy in Kenya held its national day celebration at the ambassador's residence in Muthaiga.

Algerian Ambassador to Kenya  Boumediene Mahi  said "We commemorate the 70th anniversary of Algeria's historical revolution of 1st November, making a start to the journey that led to our independence on July 1962."

"This commemoration stands as an homage to the bravery, resilience, and sacrifices of over one and a half million martyrs who gave their lives for Algeria's freedom and sovereignty, their sacrifice for our independence is a profound chapter in our history, rooted deeply in the collective memory of the Algerian people. Their courage reminds us of the harsh realities of colonial oppression, where even peaceful manifestations were met with brutal repressions crimes, and acts of genocide. These sacrifices form the bedrock of our national identity."

Ambassador Mahi noted that Algeria and Kenya share a deep, historic bond rooted in her struggles for independence, forged through shared resistance and the pursuit of freedom.

"These ties have grown stronger over time and today, the two nations stand united on regional and international issues, driven by mutual respect and shared goals. Trade between Algeria and Kenya remains modest but holds significant potential," he said.

Both governments are committed to strengthening this partnership, and the new Algerian-Kenyan Business Council allows business leaders to explore new opportunities for economic cooperation.

"Algeria is also committed to supporting Kenyan students through exchanges and scholarships; since 2022, over 350 Kenyan students have studied in Algeria in fields such as medicine, engineering, and pharmacy," Mahi said.

"These young talents represent the strong friendship and promising future of our bilateral relationship. In the coming months, the first Joint Bilateral Commission between Algeria and Kenya will establish a framework for collaboration in economic, scientific, technical, and cultural sectors, laying the foundation for closer cooperation and mutual prosperity."

He also noted that Algeria's culture is not only a source of national pride but also a virtual foundation of proper ace developments.

Deputy Director General of Africa Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Denis Gathogo Mburu said the people of Kenya take pride in the close and enduring relations, and the relations are grounded in mutual respect and a shared vision of a more prosperous future for the two countries.

"Over the years, the two nations have cultivated a deep and cordial friendship built on the principles of solidarity, cooperation, and commitment to advance common interests. As a country, we remain dedicated to strengthening these partnerships and exploring these new avenues of collaboration," he said.

Among the distinguished guests who attended the event were Deputy Director General of Africa Ministry of Foreign Affairs ambassador Denis Gathogo Mburu, the chief guest, and representatives of ambassadors and high commissioners.
