OLISA: Happy teachers, better education

Teachers should be greatly appreciated for the job well done.

In Summary
  • This move will motivate the teachers who are a pillar to our children’s lives. They are like second parents to the children as they are able to protect, guide, advice them and instil knowledge.
  • I hope the teachers in special needs schools will get a really good cut, because of the nature of their work.

It is a majestic act by teachers' unions and the Teachers Service Commission to sign the agreement for teachers’ salary increments. Finally, teachers have a reason to smile and the energy to wake up early in the morning for school.

This move will motivate the teachers who are a pillar in our children’s lives. They are like second parents to the children as they are able to protect, guide, advise them and instil knowledge.

I hope the teachers in special needs schools will get a really good cut, because of the nature of their work.

I have visited a few special schools in Busia county, and have seen the work the teachers are doing. I can say it is not a walk in the park, especially schools for the mentally handicapped.

The teachers and the children with disabilities need more support not only from the government but also from other willing partners and NGOs, as their needs are quite different from the ones in other schools.

Teachers should be greatly appreciated for the job well done, selflessness and undying commitment.
