The second tier league will be named the Super League from this season and will be made up of 20 teams, Nairobi NEC member Chris Amimo has revealed.

Amimo said the national league structure will comprise four tiers thus—the Kenyan Premier League, the Super League, national Division One (divided into two zones) and Division Two which will be run at regional level. According to Amimo, the lower leagues will be run by the branches.

The Ligi Ndogo founder said this when he briefed sub branch officials from Kasarani, Kamukunji, Embakasi and Makadara on the resolutions of the first Football Kenya Federation National Executive Committee meeting held at the Goal project in Kasarani.

He said talks are well underway with a sponsor, who has shown interest in supporting the Nairobi regional league that was one of the most vibrant competitions in the last four years. The league saw the promotion of several clubs into the second division among them Ligi Ndogo and Kariobangi Sharks.

Nairobi branch chairman Michael Ouma told the grassroot officials that they will be mandated to run and under-13 boys and girls league, adding that the league season for the branch will kick off on March 12.

“We want to empower our affiliate branches to run some activities on their own but with our support. Further, we will be meeting clubs next week to chart the way forward for this new office under a new jurisdiction and officials,” remarked Ouma,.

The Nairobi FKF boss said plans are afoot for the branch to shift their offices to the Kandanda house facility at the Goal project in Kasarani.
