Kitale RFC head coach Ben Amboko has exuded confidence that the team will gain promotion to the Kenya Rugby Union Championship.
Speaking ahead of their KRU Nationwide playoff against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology’s Cougars at St. Joseph’s Kitale High School, Amboko said his charges are ready for the game.
“We have had serious preparations for the game. We want to properly deal with JKUAT and qualify for the semis,” said Amboko.
“I have a full house and our target is to reach the finals so that we can return to the Championship next season. Playing at home will give us an added advantage.”
Kitale RFC were relegated from the second-tier league in 2019 and Amboko is targeting a quick return.
“Our dream is to play in the Kenya Cup one day. We want more teams from outside Nairobi in the top-tier league,” said a confident Amboko.
Kitale warmed up for the match with a 22-10 win over Eldoret Select on Saturday.
In other matches, Shamas will host Maseno University at the RFUEA grounds in Nairobi while Kabarak University take on Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) in Kabarak, Nakuru.
Christ Is The Answer Ministries (CITAM) Kisumu will be up against the Daystar Falcons at Maseno University.
The winners of this weekend’s fixtures will advance to the semifinals on November 13 with the final set for November 20.
The two finalists will earn promotion to the 2021/22 KRU Championship, the second tier of Kenyan club rugby.
