Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) secretary-general, Wycliffe Ongori, has called on clubs to conclude their transfer activities on time to pave way for the return of the league in February next year.
Clubs have been granted a one-month transfer window from December 16-January 16 with all the three tiers of the KHU league expected to roar back into action in the first week of February after two years of inactivity.
The supremo doesn't, however, expect transfer controversies around players and clubs because everybody is itching to return to action.
"We believe clubs will meet the deadline but we shall remind them with two weeks left and also a week to the closure," Ongori hinted.
"Signing of players has previously been a smooth affair and in case of hesitancy, the union has always stepped in to solve the impasse. Everybody is eager to be back to the field so the earlier issues are sorted the better."
Registration of teams and player transfers shall be conducted as per the rules and regulations. It is also recommended that the registered players and officials be fully vaccinated by then.
"We expect the league to bully-off in the first week of February and other updates will follow. The union wishes to reiterate and remind teams that they need to comply with the law by registering with the registrar of Sports," read the communique from KHU.
In the meantime, Ongori said the council will meet in early January to determine the roadmap to the elections which are expected to be conducted before June. The current leadership, under chairman Nashon Randiek, was elected in January 2018 for a four-year tenure.
