Hosts Eldoret tipped as Western, North Rift KMTC ball games start

The games include basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, football, netball, lawn tennis and indoor games like table tennis, badminton, darts, scrabble, drought and chess.

A total of 17 Kenya Medical Training Colleges will be battling out for North Rift and Western ball game titles this weekend at the Hill School, Eldoret.

The ball games include basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, football, netball, lawn tennis and indoor games like table tennis, badminton, darts, scrabble, drought and chess.

The two-day championships kick off on Saturday and conclude on Sunday with the winner in each discipline earning a slot to the national championships t be held in Mombasa in July.

Event organiser Calvin Kipsaina said: “After the zonals, we picked two teams per discipline to face off at this stage as we seek to select a strong team to fly our flag in Mombasa."

In men's basketball Kabarnet from Baringo county will battle Webuye (Baringo), Eldoret (Uasin Gishu) and Kakamega (Kakamega) while the women's division has Kapenguria (West Pokot), Kabarnet (Baringo), Webuye (Webuye) and Kakamega (Kakamega).

“The games will be played in a round-robin format and the winner will automatically book a slot to the national championships,” he explained.

By virtue of being the hosts, Eldoret will field a team in each discipline.

In men's hockey, hosts Eldoret will be up against Kapenguria, Webuye and Kakamega while the women's contest has hosts Eldoret, Kapenguria, Webuye and Kakamega.

Women's netball has Eldoret, Kabarent, Webuye and Chwele (Bungoma). Women's football has Iten (Elgeyo Marakwet), Kaptumo (Nandi), Lugari (Kakamega) and Webuye.

Rugby will consist of both 15s and 7s at Wareng High School. In 15s, Kapenguria will battle Kakamega in the only match while Kapenguria, Kitale (Trans Nzoia) and two Webuye sides will clash in the 7s competition.
