The late Waithaka Kioni, who served as the President of the Kenya Volleyball Federation and the 2nd Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, will be laid to rest at his home in Kiamwangi Village, Gatundu South on Wednesday.
The funeral program will commence at 8:30 am at Lee Funeral Home and proceed to Kiamwangi for a church service at 10:00 am. The ceremony is expected to continue until 4:00 pm.
Kioni passed away on April 9 in Nairobi after a short illness. He was the brains behind the formation of the Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club almost four decades ago.
The club has been a dominant force in the local league and a key contributor to the national women's team, famously known as 'Malkia Strikers.
Among the speakers during the funeral will include Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) acting president, Charles Nyaberi; Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC) chairman, Nderitu Gikaria and National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) chairman, Paul Tergat among others.
