Juma seals treble at school games in Eldoret

The Misimu girls’ athlete won both 100m hurdles and 100m races before sealing her treble in 200m.

Rebecca Juma recorded a treble victory as secondary school games track and field events came to an end at the Moi Girls Eldoret and Kipchoge Keino stadium.

The Misimu girls’ athlete won both 100m hurdles and 100m races before sealing her treble in 200m at the abandoned and under-construction Kipchoge Keino stadium.

Juma managed 12.2s in 100m. Martha Lucy scooped the second position in 12.7 and Tracy Masinai (13.0) clinched the third position.

She won the 100m hurdles after timing 17.4 to beat Valary Kibet (17.7) to second and Kaworu's Yvone Awino completed the podium at 17.9.

Juma won the 200m title in 24.8  and was followed by St Joseph’s Esther Mukonyi (25.1).

Nyangori’s Alvin Inyanga won the 200m title in the boy's category.

Chelebei secondary school’s Emmanuel Soita was victorious in the boys’ 400m when he clocked 51.3 beating Kiambogo’s Alex Ormoi (51.6) and Butere’s Brian Naika (52.0) in that order.

In the girls’ one-lap race, Keberesi’s Beatrice Machoka was the winner in 58.4 followed closely by Yvonne Mwangale (59.3) of Khakonya and Alice Ekiru (59.5) from Kondabilet coming third.

In the early morning race, Maurine Cherotich won the 10,000m title in cold weather when she clocked 36:15.1.

The Kalyet high school student said that she did not know that she would win but the victory was a dream come true.

“This was a tough and good race for me. As much as I did not know that I would win after looking at my opponents, the dream has come true for me,” said Cherotich.

She managed to beat her schoolmate Faith Cherotich to second position after timing 36:55.1 and Nkanga’s Mukonene in 39:04.6.
