IASR supports Masters hockey series with sh.100,000 donation

We have never partnered with any federation but we are keen on capacity building-Oloo.

Institute of the Applied Studies and Research Principal Willis Oloo has said the institution is glad to partner with Kenya Hockey Union in promoting the Masters Hockey in Kenya.

IASR on May 17 sponsored the upcoming Masters tournament to a tune of sh. 100,000 donation. The cheque was presented at the City Park Stadium ahead of Mashujaa and Greensharks match.

The two-day Masters championship series will take place on June 3-4 in Nairobi with a total of 10 teams expected to grace the event if KHU deputy match and fixtures secretary Moses Majiwa is to be believed.

“This is just the beginning of better things to come. We have never partnered with any federation but we are keen on capacity building and even sponsor the league in the near future," Oloo said.

"I love hockey and I always watch the matches when I am free," he added.

KHU chairman Nashon Randiek added: “We are grateful for the kind gesture extended to us by IASR. Research in hockey is key. It is an area that has not been exploited not only in Kenya but Africa at large apart from South Africa."

The masters league was started in 2019 and the first edition of the series was played in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru.

The series, for players aged 45 years and above, was not played in 2020 and 2021 because of the covid-19 pandemic.

The second edition took place last year. 

The 2023 series started in Kisumu on April 1. The second series of the third edition is set for Nairobi, while Mombasa and Nakuru will host the subsequent matches.
