St. Patrick’s Iten High School have cited Simotwo as their biggest threat at this weekend's Elgeyo Marakwet County Secondary Schools Sports Association Games at Kapsowar High School.
St. Patrick's Iten head coach Bernard Indasi said Simwoto have been impressive in both 15s and 7s rugby.
“We expect tough competition, especially from Simwoto. I believe we are equal to the task as the event draws nearer. Our focus is to feature at the East Africa Secondary Schools championships," added Indasi.
The tactician said they will rely on the same team that competed at Keiyo North subcounty games, where they were unbeaten.
He said he wants to focus on the Sevens this time after losing the opportunity to represent the country in the 15's at the East Africa Secondary Schools Games last year in Kigali, Rwanda.
“I am fielding young players this time to give their seniors, who are in Form Four, time to study ahead of their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) later this year. We are testing the young players, whom we hope to use this and next year. That is our plan,” said Indasi.
He said the young players are up to the task and hopes they will shake off the challenge from his former school Simwoto Boys at the county show this weekend.
At the Keiyo North championships, The Saints won the title unbeaten and without conceding, beating Tambach 36-0 and Kipsoen 29-0. The event staged at St Francis Kimuron was played on a round-robin basis.
“This was a good sign that the team is ready for the championships. If I look at the county championships, Simwoto will give us a hard time. They have a very fast backline but we are ready for them. A lot will depend on how prepared our players are," said Indasi.
